Ep. 79 In Carlsbad, Strawberry Fields…Are Forever

Aviara Farms has never sold a day-old strawberry. Hear all about this local institution in a mouth-watering and informative episode with owner Jimmy Ukegawa.

Aviara Farms is a local institution in Carlsbad, and for good reason. From the mouth-watering strawberries in the winter and spring, to the endless maze of cornfields and pumpkins in the autumn, there is something for everyone at this one-of-a-kind, special place. Spend some time with owner Jimmy Ukegawa, and get the inside story of what it’s taken to run the farm for four generations, and how they have navigated this year’s torrential rains and the worst strawberry season on record.

Aviara Farms grows sweeter varieties of strawberries than what is available commercially, and they’re always experimenting with new varieties. Once you hear Jimmy describe his family’s strawberries, you’ll never buy them in the grocery store again! And best of all, those berries are still out there, and ready for picking, so don’t miss out. Come and pick ‘em right off the plant – it doesn’t get any fresher than that.

And when Autumn comes around, be sure to take a walk through their one and a half miles of trails in the corn maze. Come October, take a terrifying trek through the “haunted” one, or if that isn’t your thing, go to the pumpkin patch, take a tractor ride or pet some animals. You’ll hear all about this - and more - in this fun-filled episode!
