Ep. 30 The Flower Fields feat. Joni Miringoff & Fred Clarke

Learn more about the Carlsbad Chamber.

Have you ever seen 80 million flowers?

Well, if you want to get the chance, then head over to the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch!

In this episode of the Carlsbad People, Purpose, and Impact Podcast, Bret Schanzenbach is joined by Joni Miringoff and Fred Clarke from the Flower Fields. About a century ago, this area of Carlsbad was the “flora capital of America,” as farmers grew all kinds of flowers, including gladiolas, roses, poinsettias, and—what the Flower Fields is now famous for—ranunculus. Originally, ranunculus flowers were only red or yellow, but, due to careful cultivation by the founding owners in the 1950s, the Flower Fields boasts ranunculus of over 14 colors. Now, the Flower Fields is a gorgeous tourist attraction and event space for those in Southern California. People can enjoy gorgeous flowers, purchase bouquets, take walks on the grounds, or host an event or wedding.

In this conversation, Joni and Fred talk about the Flower Fields’ history and share their upcoming community events, which include wine-tasting, concerts, morning yoga, BMX events, photography lessons with Canon photography, mosaic and floral workshops, and the Carlsbad Chamber’s Green Business Expo. In addition to these events, the Flower Fields also offers an after-school program, which educates children in planting, composting, nature, and more! However, the Flower Fields’ season doesn’t last long, as their events run from March 1st to Mother’s Day.
