Meet Carlsbad’s Middle School Teacher of the Year 2022 Winner, Edric Uy, who makes math engaging, energetic and relatable to the real world for his students.

For students who may not consider themselves “math people”, there is no better teacher than Edric Uy, who has transformed his classroom into an environment where his students feel motivated and capable of understanding and applying challenging math concepts. He makes math relevant and engaging, and in this interview, you’ll hear several of his unique methods: from a student-run business, to the building of a cookbook from scratch, and a gamified approach to learning called Breakout EDU – for students who may lose interest in traditional, rote learning methods.

A passion for math and an uncanny ability to incorporate it into experiential learning have empowered his students and have won him the Carlsbad Chamber’s Middle School Teacher of the Year Award, 2022. Listen in - it’ll make you wish you could go to school again.
